@qikipedia and for macdonalds, "macadonaldo". I'm told its something to do with japanese needing vowels between (certain?) consonants

@qikipedia It's actually handobagu, (Japanese for handbag) especially as handubagu would render phonetically as handzubagu. #pedantic

@qikipedia handobakku or handobaggu, actually. There's no "du" in Japanese.

@qikipedia Wouldn't it be "handobagu" since they don't really have a "du" sound in Japanese?

@qikipedia The japanese for 'handbag' is actually handobaggu not handubagu (there is no 'du' sound in Japanese)

@qikipedia There's no "du" sound in Japanese, so it's handobaggu. There are a lot of other English words used, like "pantsu" and "T-shyatsu"

@qikipedia 'handobagu' is a loan word from English. The proper Japanese for handbag would be 鞄 'kaban'. Japanese has tons of loan words.

@qikipedia There's no "du" phoneme in Japanese, so it couldn't be: it'd be "handobaggu". A dictionary says "tesage", "saifu" or "paasu".

@qikipedia It's only romanised that way because Japanese alphabets don't have vowel-less consonants. It's still pronounced "handbag".
